Celebrating Creativity Abbotsford Students Showcase Identity Through Art at The Reach Gallery
Students from the Abbotsford School District recently attended an opening ceremony for the display of their artwork at The Reach Gallery Museum. Their pieces are now on display and will be featured at the gallery through to the end of May 2025.
This year's theme is personal or cultural identity, where students were provided students the opportunity to share their stories through their own words and languages. Students who had created digital artwork also had their works shown on interactive kiosks for visitors, peers, and the wider community. Close to 300 students from grades two through twelve contributed thoughtful, heartfelt pieces that reflect the rich tapestry of who they are: their family stories, cultural roots, personal interests, and the traditions that shape their lives.
“This is the second year of our partnership with The Reach Gallery Museum, and the growth in student participation has been incredible,” said Tracy Krys, Director of Curriculum for the Abbotsford School District. “It’s inspiring to see so many young artists from across our schools using this opportunity to express their identity and creativity in such a meaningful way. The talent and thoughtfulness on display are truly something to celebrate.”
Parents and the community are encouraged to support students from ASIA Sumas Mountain, Abbotsford Senior Secondary, Abbotsford Traditional School, Rick Hansens Secondary School, and Mouat Secondary School by visiting the gallery to see the student's artwork.
